Dogs are faithful, dogs are intuitive, and dogs can save lives, which is all evident in this heartwarming story.
A stray dog found barking like there was no tomorrow was obviously not his normal self, according to Marina Tarashevsce, an animal rescuer with Dallas Dogrrr – Rescue, Rehab, Reform, in Texas.
“It wasn’t just a regular bark. He just wouldn’t stop and it sounded like he was in distress of some sort,” Tarashevsce said, per a March 15, 2015, report by Fox & Friends Weekend.
This black dog, later named “Hero,” had been evading rescuers for some time, so Tarashevsce, who was accompanied by dog behaviorist John Miller, knew something was up.
“I told her, I bet you he’s trying to get you to follow him,” Miller recalled telling her, per a CBS report. “Every time we got closer he would go away and bark at us saying, ‘Keep coming. Keep coming my way.’”
Hero’s urgent barks beckoned the two to keep following. Little did they know what was awaiting them.
Once they reached a creek by the woods, they heard the yelping of puppies.
What came to sight was an exhausted dog, later named Mona, that had just given birth to 10 puppies. They all needed aid immediately, which is exactly why Hero was so insistent on fetching help.
“I still can’t believe it, that he actually led me to the puppies,” Tarashevsce said. “But I’m so thankful because we wouldn’t have found them otherwise.”
Hero is believed to be the father of the pups, but that was not confirmed. Still, his efforts ended up saving the lives of all 10 pups and their mother, which would likely have perished otherwise.
Miller was so impressed by the dog’s tenacity in getting their attention.
“I’ve heard about stuff like this but it was awesome to witness it,” he said.
Although this rescue story may be a few years old, at the time it was only reported that the pups would be up for adoption once being weaned from their mother.
Hero's family is growing up and outgrowing their foster home. This precious dozen is in need of a loving foster family….
The good news is, all 10 pups, Hero, and Mona, were adopted into forever homes, according to Dallas Dogrrr – Rescue, Rehab, Reform.
If there’s one thing this story tells us, it’s this: Don’t ignore a dog that appears to urgently be trying to get your attention, for there could be lives at stake.
